The timing belt is a critical part of any engine, it keeps the cam shafts and crankshaft in time with each other and keeps the engine running. Failure results in more cars being scrapped than any other mechanical defect.
When the timing belt breaks it spells disaster, not only will the engine stop running but the intake and exhaust valves will come into contact with the pistons and as a result will become bent and damaged. A very expensive proposition to repair.
Most car manufacturers specify time and mileage intervals we can check these out for you, do not try to take out the belt’s life further, because the timing belt deteriorates with the passing of time. Many engines also utilise the timing belt to drive the water pump in this case we would recommend to change the water pump also.
